The computer program allows you to save a multitude of programs for quick and easy recall of repeat jobs. This feature saves the specific settings of a job and the next time the job needs to run, the operator chooses the job from memory and the program performs the computerized functions of the setup automatically. This feature saves valuable time during job changeovers and makes the operators job much simpler

Book Sewing Machine Features

The Smyth feeder transports the signatures through the openers in a shingled stream by means of geared belts. This unique opening system has the signatures traveling at 50% of the speed of the sewing machine at a 2:1 ratio. All other conventional automatic feeders cycle at a 1:1

ratio.

Example: Smyth sewing machine cycles at 100cpm, feeder cycles at 50cpm.

Other sewers cycle at 100cpm, feeder cycles at 100cpm

Contact time with the vacuum openers is longer and the special movement of the suckers (radial rotation) ensures a gentle and precise opening of the signature which is critical in the opening of lightweight and porous signatures. Other feeders use a 360-degree rotating sucker; This style 360-degree rotating sucker feeder is available as a lower cost option.

The lap opener works in conjunction with the 4th opener further enhancing the feeder’s ability to handle even the most delicate of signatures. The LAP opening device standard in all Smyth Book Sewers and is ready to work when programmed. No installation is required.

Unique in operation, the Smyth lap opener can open mixed laps (top + bottom) in the same book.

Transporting signatures in a shingled stream offer further advantages as the opened corner of the signature is released on top of a stationary plate ensuring proper transfer of the signature onto the saddle. The transfer of the signature from the saddle to the sewing head is achieved using a venturi style heading up mechanism further ensuring proper transfer of all type of signatures. Hold down fingers on sewing saddle, hold signatures down to prevent rolling.

Smyth Manual Book Sewing Machine

Semi-automatic thread sewing machine is the ideal solution for the production of sewn books with limited editions. Signatures are opened at the middle by the operator and laid onto a fixed transport saddle. They are taken by pushers and conveyed to a sewer saddle. An automatic registering device aligns signatures before sewing. Sewing and hook needles are easy to insert in the holes of the punch needles. High manufacturing and assembly quality of the machine results in very tight sewing. Automatic thread cut-off is a standard feature. When the operator does not load the signature onto the fixed saddle the machine automatically performs a blind stitch.
